Designs for model trains have been copied after trains that transformd transportation and advancement all over the world.  This facet has given all types of model trains a type of a sentimental value among model train hobbyists. 

Locomotives that brought the zenith of engineering and innovation may now have been placed in museums but they have all been commemorated in collectible model trains that now cruise their route on model railways within millions of houses.

Even TV shows dedicated to trains are now a familiar program notably those for children.  Two particular TV shows for kids about model trains are Chuggington and Thomas and Friends. 

The first trains ever built started in the early 1800s and it has come a long way since then.  For nearly 200 years, locomotives have evolved in looks, mechanism, power and velocity.  Several model train manufacturers make scale model trains that are derived generally on the two earliest kind of locomotives which are steam and diesel-electric. 

Steam Trains

Steam locomotives were the first ever mechanized locomotive and transportation.  This type of train move along by burning coal to heat water and the steam created gives the steam locomotive its power and velocity.  Even if steam locomotives are not as sleek, speedy, and powerful as the modern trains we enjoy nowadays, they are more popular because of their sentimental value and their memorable shape is most valued among model train collections and collectors. 

Diesel Electric Locomotives

The next generation of diesel-electric locomotives made expenses in operations more cheaper and the speed they produced was much better than steam locomotives.  Though they were invented in the early 1900s, diesel-electric locomotives are still being used by lots of nations around the world.  Diesel-electric model locomotives are the second most common line of popular model trains behind model steam locomotives. 

 A lot of these model trains are manufactured in different scale sizes and the most standard of these scales are 00 and H0.  Because of their popularity, these two scale ranges have become a standard measurement for a margin of model train collectors.  00 scale is popular in Europe, particularly in Britain.  In North America, the popular scale among aficionados is H0. 

Different manufacturers of model trains such as Bachmann, Bassett-Lowke, and Hornby are keen to provide model train enthusiasts the sets and collections they sought for.  A lot of their model trains are modeled after popular steam and diesel locomotives of various models and classes.  Each scale model train made are also made in limited editions in order to make it a rare and a worthy collector’s item.
